Unilever buys Bulgarian ice-cream company Darko

Unilever Central and Eastern Europe has bought out Darko, the second largest distributor and producer of ice cream in Bulgaria, for an undisclosed sum from the Balkan Accession Fund (BAF), the two companies have announced. BAF bought the company in 2007 after it was declared bankrupt in 2006. Darko’s sales in 2010 fell 9% YoY to BGN 14.2m and the net loss for the year widened to BGN 3.3m from a net loss of BGN 2.7m for 2009.
