Bulgarian Centre for Economic Development (CED) said on Monday it expected Bulgaria's economic growth to speed up this year to 6.5% real GDP increase. Experts expect the GDP in the second half of the year to reach 6.7%, compensating for the slow start of the year. Economic growth in the first quarter of the year was 6.2%. But despite a positive business climate, the labor productivity is growing at a slower pace than the economy overall, which raises doubts over the sustainability of current growth. The trade deficit is the other major problem the country's economy faces, accounting for the biggest part of Bulgaria's current account deficit. The CED economists believe that the current account gap this year, which they forecast at 20%, would not have a major negative impact on the Bulgarian economy.
