The International Grain Council last week projected that Bulgaria will harvest 5.8m tons of grain in 2008, double last year’s 3.1m tons output. The official data of the Bulgarian agricultural ministry puts the 2007 crop at just 2.4m tons. Experts attribute the discrepancy to the unreported volumes of wheat processed at private mills in rural areas. Accordingly, the local forecast for this year's crop is for 4-4.5m tons.
