Bulgaria’s Q2 2023 GDP up by 0.4% QoQ and 1.9% YoY

According to preliminary data, Bulgaria’s seasonally-adjusted Q2 2023 GDP grew 0.4% QoQ and 1.9% YoY to BGN 42.3bn (current prices), while the seasonally-adjusted GVA added 0.6% QoQ and 2.2% YoY to BGN 37.4bn. Quarterly final consumption increased 4% YoY (+1.8% QoQ) and accounted for 79.7% of the Q2 GDP, while the gross fixed capital formation registered 7.3% YoY increase (+1.5% QoQ) and formed 16% of the GDP. Exports decreased 0.9% YoY (-0.2% QoQ) to BGN 27.2bn while imports fell 6.9% YoY (-3.9% QoQ) to BGN 25.4bn. As a result, the trade balance was positive at BGN 1.8bn (4.3% of GDP). The service, industry and agriculture sectors accounted for 58.2%, 26.6% and 3.7% of GVA, respectively. The fastest growing economic subsector on an annual basis was Construction (+5.8%), while the only loser was Mining and quarrying, manufacturing, electricity, gas, etc (-1.0%).
