Bulgaria, a leading producer of rose oil which is a key ingredient in perfumes, plans to raise its production and exports by 25% this year, industry officials said on Friday. The industry was in deep crisis four years ago, reflecting the economic woes that had accompanied Bulgaria's transition to a market economy, but it has started to recover, experts claim. Rose oil production is expected to rise to 1,000 kg-1,100 kg this year, from 800 kg produced last year and some 500 kg in 1998. Bulgaria traditionally exports rose oil to France, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, the United States, Japan and some Middle East countries.
